A Rivercrest Farm Wedding
ashley and andrew on their rivercrest farm wedding
Q. Why did you select Rivercrest Farm for your wedding?
A. We loved both the rustic barn and the surrounding area. A rural low key wedding is much more “us” than a wedding full of glitz and glam in the city. The hillside with the horses is beautiful and the old wooden barn has a very romantic feel to it. It was just what we wanted. This venue has so many great areas for photos and a relaxing/cozy/fun setup for the reception. We hope to get to spend most of the day outside weather permitting.
Q. Tell us how you met
A. Written by Andrew (The Groom)
Ashley and I have mutual friends, Katie and Victor, and they had told me for a year or so I needed to meet Ashley, but they never gave me her number. One night I got together with Katie, Victor and two of our other friends and we decided to call Ashley, after we had had a few drinks. It was dark, the conversation was all over the place since we’d been drinking, and I never actually even got to talk to her, everyone else did, but it was unofficially the first time we’d met. Not too long after that, at a cookout, with the help of some adult beverages, I asked Katie for Ashley’s number finally. The next week, I texted Ashley asking if I could take her out to dinner to redeem myself from the drunken Facetime call where we sort of first met. Eventually, she texted back and agreed to go on a date with me. Her response just said, “Sure, that sounds nice.” While this didn’t make it sound like she was very excited, it was a yes, so I counted that as a win. We decided to meet at 3 Brothers Bar and Grill in Jackson, and I would say we instantly hit it off. As we started chatting, Ashley started to seem more interested, and before you know it, we had closed down that restaurant just talking on the patio. We were getting kicked out as they tried to close, so we had to move to Royal Docks Brewing Company right down the road. We ended up staying there so long that we closed that place down too and they started spraying down the patio tables beside us. We took that as our cue to leave. Both of us had a great time that night, and we could tell that something was there. As I walked her to her car, she said her mom had texted to make sure she okay and jokingly said she wanted to make sure she wasn’t getting chased through the woods with a broken heel by her blind date and wasn’t tied up in the back of his trunk. In response, like any proper gentleman would, I offered to tie her up in the back of my truck with my ratchet straps and take a picture of her to send back to her mom as a joke. She politely declined, and said that she wasn’t sure if that was the right kind of first impression that she wanted me to make with her mother. So I said, “Well, I guess at least there would be nowhere to go from there but up…..” or something to that effect. Then I, unknowingly at the time, hugged my future wife, opened her door for her, and wished her a good night and safe drive home.
Q. Tell us how you got engaged
A. From the bride’s perspective:
It had been about a year and a half since we first met, we were living separately, and I had just bought my first house. My intention was always that it would eventually be OUR home, I just wasn’t sure when. But as closing got closer, and I thought about it more, I finally decided to ask Andrew to move in with me. He of course, said yes, and the first weekend that we got the keys, we decided to go to the house together and start working on some projects we had in mind. We planned to actually move in about a month later after we got a few things done in the house and the holidays were over. So we went to Home Depot that morning, bought cleaning supplies and the things we needed for the projects we had planned and headed to the house. We worked on things all day long until eventually, we got hungry, and decided to go grab some food. We picked up some Old Carolina BBQ and brought it back to the house for our very first meal together in our home. We didn’t have a table or chairs, or any furniture whatsoever, so I ended up making us a table using two buckets and a register cover and we sat on the living room floor with a work light shining on the wall so we could see. It was perfect. Our mortgage agent had gifted us a bottle of champagne for our closing and he got up to get that for us to pop to celebrate owning our own home and starting our journey together. When he came back into the living room, he pulled me to him, and with a shaky and emotional voice, told me how much he loved me just before he got down on a knee and pulled out a ring in the middle of our living room. I said yes and then collapsed into his arms and sobbed into his chest for a long time. We held each other for a long time like that on the floor until he reminded me that I hadn’t even looked at the ring yet or let him put it on. Everything about it was perfect and I couldn’t have been happier. We drove to my parents that night and told them, but my dad already knew because Andrew asked, and we called his parents. It was a beautiful happy moment for us.
